Hirose MCR102 Series 

SmartMedia is a solid state form of memory storage that lends itself to many applications where miniaturisation and portability are part of the design brief. Typically SmartMedia can be used for storing and transferring data in digital cameras, personal organisers and PDA’s.

Hirose MCR102 SmartMedia connectors conform to the requirements of the SSFDC proposed forum for miniature storage media and can withstand 10,000 mating cycles.

They can be specified in 3.3 volt, 5 volt & dual voltage versions. The connector has a card detection feature to ensure that only the correct card can be inserted. Other features include a card detection switch (patents pending) to ensure the card is fully inserted and write protection contacts ensure information is not accidentally erased.

These connectors have been designed for ease of mounting on the SMT production line, co-planarity of the contacts is specified at 0.1mm max. The connector has a large pick up area of 8.2mm x 30mm and positioning posts for easy alignment on the PCB.

The connector also has 2 fittings that are soldered to the PCB to give mechanical strength at the front of the connector, which also double as ground contacts to the stainless steel cover used for EMI shielding.

The connector occupies 40mm x 38.5mm PCB real estate and is ONLY 3.15mm high.

This form of media allows designers to think slim.
